Why Should You Have A Maternity Shoot

Congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy!

Pregnancy is such an incredible time for any woman and her family. Whether it’s the first time or 3rd time, the gift of new life is a wonderful blessing and is always a happy reason to celebrate.

If you’re looking for a maternity photographer in Sydney who can help you create wonderful memories to commemorate this beautiful time in your life, I am very happy to help. As a mum myself, I know how it feels to go through pregnancy, thus, I am able to anticipate your needs and offer the best and most inclusive packages to guarantee a stress free experience.

If you’re a pregnant mum-to-be and wondering if you should have a maternity shoot, let me give you very good reasons (and some tips) right here:

Every pregnancy is unique

All pregnancies are unique in the same breath that all women are unique. Each one has a different set of characteristics, strengths, and coping mechanisms. Your journey as a pregnant woman is unique to you, as not all pregnant women go through the same process.

This is a very good reason why you should have a maternity photo session. To celebrate this unique moment in your life. It will be a good topic of conversation in the years to come and it’s always going to be a unique story to tell to your children when they grow older.

Some pregnant women are quite apprehensive in showing skin, and quite understandably so especially if you’re not very used to being photographed professionally. The thing is, you have the option to choose your setup, your dress and your props. Speak to your photographer about your plans so you can talk about your ideas for the shoot.

Pro Tip #1: If you’re feeling a little self-conscious about your body, don't worry I’ve got you. Most women feel that way but its my job to make it a fun, easy experience, making you feel comfortable during the whole process. It may help take some time to pamper yourself and relax before your session. If it’s your first time to be professionally photographed, having a prenatal massage or a spa day will help calm your nerves and relax you in time for the session.

Pro Tip #2: For your clothes, it’s always recommended to go for simple colors to make sure that the focus of the photos will be you and your baby bump. Go with light, stretchy and flowy fabrics as they give a nice airy effet to your photos, plus they’re very comfy to wear! I also have a studio wardrobe we can pull pieces from , so no need to buy additional clothing.

A way to bond with your partner (and other family members too!

Having a maternity shoot is a great way to bond with your partner. If this is your first pregnancy, this will mark the remaining days when it’s just the two of you together. After you give birth, there will be three (or more) of you and things will soon change in the most amazing and heartwarming way possible.

If you have older children, they share the excitement and anticipation of becoming a bigger sister or brother to the upcoming little angel. Sharing an intimate photo session with them multiplies the love and excitement that they already feel in their hearts.

Pro Tip: If you’re bringing small children with you, make sure to let them know what to expect during the shoot. Talk to them a few days before the shoot and explain the process so they will not be surprised as much. Bring toys and small snacks to occupy their attention while waiting for their turn. If possible, try to bring another guardian with you so you have someone to look after them while you’re busy doing your poses.

Honor your strength and your amazing gift as a woman

A human being is growing inside of your body. That is no easy feat and certainly not something that comes by easily. You have endured too many aches and pains in the last few months and you are almost at the culminating event of your pregnancy journey.

A maternity photo shoot will let you immortalize that moment in your life where you actually grew and conceived an entire human being inside of you. It will let you remember how strong you were, how resilient you were and how much love your heart is capable of giving.

The amazing photos will be a monument to your strength as a woman, as a mother and as a wife. When you look back at this time in your life, you will remember the very important role you played in your family and how much stronger this experience has made you. It is a beautiful way to start documenting your family journey and capturing it for your children.

Pro Tip #: To highlight your best features, it is recommended to have your hair and make-up done for the shoot. If you book my services, you don’t need to worry about this because my inclusive package includes hair and make-up pampering before we start the session.

Again, congratulations on the baby! Sometimes with all the aches and pains of pregnancy, we tend to forget the amazing things that we are, but I hope you know that you are one beautiful, strong, and amazing mum-to-be.

If you need help planning and deciding for your maternity shoot, I’m always happy to help. Give me a shout here.

Why You Should Consider Having A Newborn Photo Shoot in Sydney

Still, thinking if you need one? Or wondering if newborn photography in Sydney is really worth the price and the hype? Read on and find out why it’s a big, resounding “YES”.

Newborns grow up TOO fast

Moms with older kids would usually say that the “nights are long, but the days are short”, and rightly so! Kids grow up so fast and before you know it, your tiny little burrito in her swaddle is big enough to go to Kindy class. If you’re a new mum-to-be and you’re already overwhelmed with all the preparations and you’re already feeling the pressure, don’t let all these cloud your eyes from the wonderful experience of caring for a newborn! Sure, the nights are long with feeding, burping, nappy changing and other what-have-you’s, but your child is only as little for such a very short time; you want to take it all in and enjoy every moment.

This is the number one reason why you should consider getting a newborn photo shoot. Your child will never be as little as he or she is, and you definitely want something to remember this time in your lives.

Amazing photos and expertise of professional photographers

You may be thinking, “Oh I can always take photos with my phone” or “We have a camera at home, I can ask a friend who can do it for me”. While all these may be convenient and doable, you also have to be honest with yourself: how many of the photos you took with your phone end up being printed and displayed in your living room? Resolution wise, mobile phone photos are not print-friendly. If you invest in a newborn photoshoot, you can be sure that you’re going home with incredible photographs that are shot from the best angles, well lit and highlight your newborn in the best way possible. Not only that, these photos aren’t only Instagram-worthy, but high-re enough to be displayed in your living room!

In addition, if we’re talking about photographing newborns, one of the most delicate and precious subjects there is, you want to leave posing and handling them to professionals who are trained to do such tasks while you get to relax and enjoy the experience.

To make getting to the photoshoot stress-free and enjoyable, professional hair and makeup is included in my sessions for mum.

As a mother and a photographer, I always make sure  my clients (both parents and newborn) comfortable in my studio and during the actual shoot. From booking the session, to the consultation, to the actual shoot until the delivery of prints, I make sure that the entire process is smooth, efficient and absolutely stress-free.

Timeless photographs of your newborn AND your family

Another great thing about having a newborn photoshoot is that you, and the rest of your lovely family, get to be in it too! Selfies with a sleeping newborn are good, but  you want this timeless memory of your family’s life captured in a flawless image with everyone, including you !

While your newborn will remain to be the highlight and subject of most photos, it’s absolutely incredible to see Mum, Dad and older siblings in there too. After all, you’re the one who brought the little angel into the world!

Going home with another human being who you carried in your womb for 9 amazing months, can be scary, overwhelming and exciting. These are all part and parcel of the whole parenthood experience. Give yourself the grace to take it all in and embrace this chapter in your life. You are one strong woman, and you definitely got this.

Subscribe to a skin care regimen

Healthy and glowing skin doesn’t happen overnight, contrary to what some skin care products may promise you. There is no serum, moisturizer, or toner that will magically give you perfect, glowing skin in just one use. The key to having amazing skin is putting in the effort to actually take care of it and make sure it gets the attention it needs. You can start by consulting a skin care professional so you can get sound medical advice on what your skin type is. Knowing your skin type will familiarise you with the kind of skin care products that will work best on your skin. Mindlessly buying the newest skin care trend will not do you any good and might cause breakouts and skin irritation.

Starting early is key. You want to have as much lead time as you can to make sure you’ll give your skin the time it needs to be attuned to your skin care regimen. Getting regular treatments in your trusted skin care clinic is also an option to make sure your skin gets the TLC it deserves.

Eat and drink healthy

There is a saying that “you are what you eat” and this is true for your skin too. There may be certain food items that can cause your skin to produce extra oil, therefore may lead to breakouts. Or you may be allergic to certain food and drinks so you want to steer clear of those too. If you have a sweet tooth and have to have your daily sugar dose, you may want to cut back a few portions because sugar, or anything processed, have the tendency to make your skin look pasty and a little dull. If you must eat chocolate, opt for the dark chocolate kind with at least 70% cocoa. Try to stay away from soda and high sugar juices and opt for natural fruits instead. It won’t only make your skin healthy, it will also help your entire body become healthy too.

Less is more
Keep in mind that when it comes to your skin, sometimes “less is more”. You don’t need to put a ton of skincare products on your face to make a regimen work. Not all skin care ingredients agree with each other, and not all are compatible with your face. Stick with the basics and don't’ forget sunscreen!

In addition, you want to make sure that your routine is sustainable for your lifestyle, both in time and resources. Buying products that break the bank and are too complicated to do on a daily basis is not sustainable. Opt for those that are budget and time friendly. You would still want healthy, glowing skin after the wedding, right?

Get plenty of sleep and hydrate
The two best skin care tips that any beauty magazine will give you are very simple: sleep and hydrate. These are ultra easy tips but somehow most often overlooked. Try sleeping for 6 to 8 hours/day and maintaining a consistent bedtime routine for at least a week and see how your skin health will change. Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day will also make sure that your skin is moisturized and hydrated from the inside. It would be helpful to always carry a water tumbler with you and  those downloadable apps that remind you to drink water if you’re having trouble keeping track.

Exercise!
When you sweat, your body flushes out harmful toxins and impurities that can be found in the dermal layer of the skin. It also improves the blood flow to your body making sure that all organs, including the skin, are healthy and functioning properly. In addition, exercise releases endorphins which makes you happy. A happy bride is always a glowing bride!

The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Hair And Makeup

Your wedding day is almost here and you can’t be more giddy and excited! Your dream wedding which took months to plan is coming to life and your happiness and excitement are through the roof! Now that you have spent your time making sure that every little detail of your wedding is up to perfection, it’s time to focus on you!

Have you decided on your bridal hair and make-up look yet? You deserve to look and feel your most beautiful during your wedding and I can help you achieve that, and more! I believe that every bride is beautiful, and it takes a certain amount of expertise to bring out and highlight that beauty to make it more extraordinary. I consider being a part of your wedding an absolute privilege, and it will be my great joy to make you shine your brightest on your big day.

Need some help in getting your wedding hair and makeup ready for the big day? We’ve come up with the Ultimate Guide to help you list down all the important things to consider:

Research

Research is always your best friend. If you have extensively used Pinterest boards for some inspiration on how your reception venue will look like, why not take advantage of it even more by researching hair and make-up pegs that will suit your face shape and your preference? Ask friends or family members who have gotten married before you on what they did and didn’t consider when they’re planning for their bridal look. What looks worked and didn’t work for them? Why? What are the challenges they encountered when planning for their bridal look? These best practices can help you learn which better path to take in planning your own bridal look.

Research doesn’t stop at pinning pegs for the actual bridal look though; you have to remember that your wedding hair and make-up service provider is also responsible for making you look beautiful on your special day, so an extensive amount of research on that is needed as well! Look through reviews on the internet and social media so you can get a feel of how it is to work with them. This will help you gauge if they are the right service provider for you. Ask your friends and colleagues to recommendations.

I take pride in listening to my clients, whether small or big bridal parties, from the beginning until the very end of the process. I make sure to note all requirements and preferences and deliver the kind of service that always makes my clients happy and satisfied. You can read about the raving reviews of my previous clients here.

Consider the season and weather

The season and weather are very important considerations for your bridal hair and make-up. Is it going to be hot? If so, are you going to have a prolonged sun exposure? If not, are you going to be in an airconditioned area for the most part of the ceremony and reception? You want to come up with bridal hair and makeup and that is suitable for these conditions, otherwise, you might end up having makeup that’s either running or won’t last until the end of the program.

Consider the wedding details - wedding dress, venue, theme & timeline

The wedding details are important considerations that will help you finalize your overlook. Do your chosen look and wedding dress complement each other? You don’t want either one outdoing the other, you want both that’s perfectly seamless and complements the other perfectly.

Is your wedding venue outdoor or indoor? Will your hair need to withstand a substantial amount of wind at any part of the program? If so, a “messy braid” may look messier than intended so might want to steer clear of that.

What time is your wedding? If it’s too early, will you have enough time to prepare for the elaborate makeup and hairstyle that you prefer? If you have a large wedding party, is your hair and makeup provider trained to handle such requirements?

For large weddings, I work with another experienced artist so a big bridal party or an early ceremony are no problem at all.

Preparation is key

A good preparation always sets you up for success. Make sure to include all necessary preparations that are needed for your big day. Have everything you need ready and laid out.  Is everyone aware of their roles? Does everyone know where they need to be and what time they need to show up? Do they know to turn up with clean hair and clean moisturised skin?

I send my brides a ‘wedding day getting ready guide’ with all the things they need to remember for a great relaxing morning of pampering.

A stress-free face is always the best canvas for the perfect makeup, and no matter how elaborate and beautiful your chosen look is, you won’t achieve it if you spend your time being stressed out. Make sure to hydrate, sleep well and get all your pampering affairs in order, you’re about to look your most beautiful!

If you have any questions or need professional help in deciding your bridal hair and makeup, shoot me a message here. I’d be delighted to be part of your wonderful celebration!

4 Valentines Gift Ideas For Your Girlfriend or Wife

Aside from your anniversary, Valentine’s day is the only other occasion where you get an excuse to spoil your partner. It’s the perfect excuse to remind her that you treasure her presence and all that she brings to your life. That said, there’s a lot of pressure to get the perfect gift for your special someone, and finding a meaningful, unique gift is easier said than done. Chocolates and roses are a classic but almost too cliche nowadays. You could gift some perfume or jewellery, though those tend to be rather expensive and there’s no guarantee that she will actually like them. The best way to show that you love her and value her time is by getting her an experience rather than an object. She gets to dress up for an outing, feel special and cute, and the memory of the day is a gift that keeps on giving. After all, what better way to express your love and affection for her than with a classy and thoughtful experience that’s truly one of a kind and personal? If she loves to feel pampered and be the centre of attention, then she will love any of these 4 gift ideas.

Makeover and Portrait Session

A makeover and portrait session means your girlfriend or wife gets to be treated like royalty. The luxury of having a professional do her hair and makeup isn’t something she gets to experience every day, so this time will be highly appreciated and treasured forever. After her makeover is complete, she will already feel so special and beautiful even before she steps in front of the camera. The fact that this day gets to be documented and her look captured for future reference is just icing on the cake! Above all else, this is also a great learning experience since a professional makeover and portrait session can teach her so much about what makeup techniques will work best on her. She will also learn a number of flattering poses and facial expressions, so all of her future selfies will be absolutely stunning.

Boudoir Photoshoot + Hair and Makeup

If the woman in your life isn’t afraid of her more sensual side and wouldn’t be opposed to the idea, a boudoir photoshoot could be an unforgettable experience, made better only by the knowledge that you are the one paying for her to be spoiled.  Package the photoshoot with a hair and makeup session, and she’ll get an album full of photos of her at her most confident and glamorous. To truly complete the experience, a great idea would be to get her some lingerie to wear during the photoshoot as well. With all the effort you put into this gift, she might even consider sharing a few photos with you.

 Personal Makeup Lesson

Most women taught themselves all they know about makeup, and your partner is probably the same. If you’ve noticed her struggling to get ready in the mornings or having a hard time following youtube tutorials, a personal makeup lesson is your best bet. With an instructor to teach her the basics, she will gain the proper foundation of makeup skills needed to experiment with new looks in the future. During the lesson, she will learn how to best prepare the skin to ensure long-lasting wear, what colour palettes best complement her complexion and hair tones and several makeup profiles to suit a variety of occasions.  You are gifting her a mastery of makeup application, and the knowledge of how to integrate the makeup routine into everyday life.

Couple Photoshoot with Hair and Makeup Pamper for Her

If you’re a relatively new couple and kids aren’t in the picture, then a couple’s photoshoot is a great way to capture your love for each other. This also works if she tends to be a bit camera shy and doesn’t feel comfortable being alone in front of the camera. A couple’s photoshoot is an experience you can both enjoy and have fun with, and she will greatly appreciate it not only for the photos but for the time you spent together as well since it makes for a great bonding experience for the two of you. To make it more than just a photoshoot and really make it a gift for her, including a hair and makeup pamper will make her feel special.

Hopefully, this gift guide has given you some gift ideas for Valentine’s day. If you would like to book these experiences, we offer these services at our private studio in Sydney.

5 Tips To Choosing The Right Makeup Artist For Your Wedding

Your wedding day is one of the biggest and most memorable days of your life. You’ve spent so long planning out every detail of the ceremony to ensure the perfect day. You’ve gone through location and catering details, guest lists, and of course, wedding dress shopping. All brides know the importance of choosing the right dress but have you thought about your makeup for that day? Picking the perfect makeup artist is just as vital as everything else. Professional makeup artists will ensure that your makeup compliments your dress, wedding theme, and facial features, for a flawless look that’s beautiful in photos and in person.

110111002.jpg

Here are 5 tips to choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

Decide on a look.

Different makeup artists specialize in different looks. Most of them will be able to cater to what you want, but when shopping around you’ll be better off letting your potential makeup artist know the specific look you want to achieve. Do this by looking for pegs on Instagram or Pinterest and compiling these images into one mood board you can use as a reference. Since these are reference pictures, be sure to choose pictures of brides with a similar skin tone and facial features as your own. These make a better reference to your makeup artist and allow you to better imagine the look on yourself. If you already have several artists in mind, you should go through their website, Facebook, or Instagram for references as well.

Stick to a budget

Makeup artists will have different rates, and you should know how much you’re willing to spend from the very beginning. Prices depend on the skill and overall profile of the make-up artist, so the more in demand an artist is, the higher their rates. Rates also differ depending on the number of hours and people who will need their service and the location of your wedding. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for with makeup artists, so don’t expect the most polished look if you’re not willing to pay for it. However, that doesn’t mean you should be breaking the bank just to look good for your wedding. Determine your budget by finding the middle ground between quality and price, and look for artists within your means.

Ask for Referrals

The fastest and easiest way to find someone who suits your style is to ask friends and family for referrals. Chances are you share some elements of your style with someone in your circle, so if your best friend’s makeup was great for her, they might be a great fit for you as well. An added bonus of getting referrals is that you also get an idea of what the artist is like, and if their work ethic aligns and attitude will fit with what you want for your wedding day. Apart from friends and family, local bridal magazines and bridal forums are also a good source for reviews and recommendations.

Look at Portfolios

Once you’ve found someone you’re thinking of working with, look through their portfolio to get a feel for what they do and what they specialize in. If you can’t find their portfolio online, try contacting them and asking for a few pictures of their work. When looking through the images, pay attention to the ones most relevant to your own situation. Ask to see their previous makeup looks on brides with the same skin tone and facial features that you have. If you’re planning on an outdoor celebration, ask for pictures of brides in outdoor situations. Also, be sure that their makeup style suits you. For example, don’t pick an artist who specializes only in heavy makeup looks for indoor situations if you want a more natural look and plan on having an outdoor wedding.

Schedule a trial run.

Once you’ve settled on the right artist, set up a trial run so you know how they work before the big day arrives. This is the most important step in knowing whether or not you made the right choice. At the trial run, you’ll find out if you both click in person, and if they’re able to deliver what you want. This is also the time you can request for changes to be made, or decide if you want to look for someone else altogether. Your wedding day is for you and your makeup artist should make you feel confident the entire time. Pre-wedding pictorials provide the perfect opportunity for a trial session.

Choosing a makeup artist is important in making you feel cool and confident on your big day. By taking your time and doing proper research, you’ll surely find a professional makeup artist that will bring out your most stunning self. If you’re still looking for the right makeup artist for your wedding day, please contact me! I have over 20 years of experience and would love to be part of your big day.

Why Everyone Should Have A Personal Branding Photoshoot

Personal branding seems to be one of the biggest buzzwords of the past few years. It’s rising in popularity, and you may have noticed personal branding photographers advertising sessions.

But what is a personal branding photoshoot and why should you have one?

A personal branding shoot is often confused with a simple headshot shoot. The difference is the depth. Personal branding shoots dive deeper into personality, charisma and credibility. They showcase more of you.

But before discussing exactly what a personal branding photoshoot entails, let’s first have a look at what a personal brand really is.

5.jpg

What is a personal brand?

Essentially, a personal brand summarises who you are, and how you promote yourself. It’s not just about the images you portray online. It’s not just your logo and colours of your business. In fact, you don’t even need to own a business to have a personal brand.

Your personal brand communicates many things about you. It’s a way to showcase your personality. Are you outgoing, smiley and bubbly, or a little more serious and reserved? By utilising personal branding, your images and language is a great way to communicate these things. And you might be unaware of it, but it’s something you’re already doing.

Not only does your personal brand tell others a little about your personality, but it is also a way to demonstrate your values and professionalism, and indicates what it might be like to work with you, buy from you, or hire you as an employee.

KS_2019-084-Edit.jpg

What does a personal branding photoshoot entail?

So if you’re thinking of having a personal branding photoshoot, there are a few things that need to be considered.

Locations:

The setting of your photoshoot is important. Professional studio space can allow for clean, minimalist and professional portraits. You can achieve a range of full length, seated, headshots, mid-length, posed and candid shots in a studio environment, or utilise different backdrops (depending on what your photographer has). You can also request images on a transparent background - to give a cutout effect for websites and marketing material if needed.

If you have a business premises, you might be better off having your photoshoot on-site. This is particularly good for businesses who have small stores and boutiques, so they can showcase themselves at work in their environment. It also gives opportunities for little detail shots that all help communicate that brand as well.

Alternatively, a general outdoor or public space could be used - such as a natural backdrop for a relaxed brand, or a local cafe for a casual environment.

Outfits:

It’s always beneficial to have multiple outfits to choose from. Think about what clothing you wear at work, around clients, to interviews or meetings. These are a good starting point in how you should consider portraying yourself in your personal branding portraits.

Speak with your photographer about colours to compliment your environment - whether that be studio, on location or outdoors. Avoiding big patterns and logos (unless they are your own), can help simplify things. However, if bold patterns are your thing, and really represent who you are, then go for it.

Poses:

Do you want professional, posed images of you looking at the camera, or do you prefer candid shots of you at work or with clients? These are things to think about and discuss with your photographer before your shoot. It’s always beneficial to have a bit of a mix. The more poses and variations you have, the wider you can use them across your website, social media, and printed marketing material.

Props:

Think about what items you might like to include in your photoshoot. If you want candid images of you at work, then consider bringing along a favourite notebook or diary, and some nice pens. You could also bring things along like your favourite mug, some different jewellery or accessories, whiteboards or educational tools and books. Props are all going to depend on what you do.

So why do you need a professional personal branding photoshoot?

A professional photoshoot is a great way to communicate many things. Most importantly, your images will help to build relationships before people have ever met you.

First impressions count, and professional images help to make a good impression. They showcase your professionalism and demonstrate a dedication to your career or business.

Not only this, but personal branding photographs are there to help people get to know you, like you, and trust you.

Where to use your personal branding photographs:

There are many places that you will be able to use your photographs, and you’ll find yourself using your images in more places than you expect.

First and foremost, a great headshot from your session can be used across your professional online profiles, social media, and on your website. You can also use it in your email thumbnail and footer, across your printed marketing material (like flyers and business cards) and on company websites.

Your images are also useful for if you ever get published as a featured blog author, or find yourself being featured in a magazine or newspaper. Professional publications require professional headshots and often need them at short notice. Having a bank of images will allow you to provide exactly what is needed in a timely manner.

Lastly, and most obviously, your personal branding shots can be used all over your website. By showing who you are, and what it is like to work with you, your clients will be drawn to your business. These images can be used offline across your brochures and flyers, or in electronic communications such as email marketing or PDF documents.

It’s scary, but empowering:

While professional photography is daunting, can feel scary and uncomfortable, if you find the right photographer your shoot will do nothing but empower you. Relax, enjoy it, and remember that your images will be unique to you - which is an amazing thing.

Newborn Photoshoots: Safety Tips Every Parent Should Know

Aren’t those sweet photos of sleeping newborns in dreamy backdrops, beautiful setups, and cute poses over the internet just amazing? No wonder why many new parents are inspired to achieve the same by doing their own DIY newborn photoshoot at home or hiring a professional newborn photographer.

But is it safe?

Experts warn not to attempt the same setups And safety in newborns is everything. Isn't that the reason why you try to find the right OB-GYN and checked the safety features of every baby fixture you bought, including the crib, baby seat, stroller, carrier, and others? Thus, you must apply that same dedication in making sure your little one is safe during a photoshoot. To help you do that, here are some newborn photography tips you should know about.

5 Tips to Keep Your Baby Safe During Newborn Photoshoots

Tip #1: Photoshop is key

Have you seen those cute newborn poses of babies holding their heads up with their hands? Or maybe those photos where babies are suspended in the air? You know, the photos that make you say “Aww”? Well, they are all fake. See, babies can’t hold their heads. On the other hand, you can’t just lift babies in the air and let them stay there until you get the perfect shot. So how are these photos made? Simple: photoshop.

The only way to achieve these photos safely is through composite photography. Meaning, two or more images are joined together to create one image. So in the case of babies holding their heads, the photographer will take two photos of you holding your baby’s head and blend them in photoshop. For photos of suspended babies, these are done on a bean bag, table, or floor with the background just edited.

For photographers who don’t know what they are doing, they may try to put your baby in such a position - which then puts your L.O in danger. This brings us to our next tip…

Tip #2: Always support your baby’s neck

Babies, especially newborns, have undeveloped neck muscles. It takes at least 6 months until these muscles fully develop. So whether you are having a DIY newborn photoshoot at home or with a professional, always insist on supporting your newborn’s head and make sure all the poses won’t cause any strain on the neck. You should also look out for unnatural poses or when your newborn is forced to bend too much as these are all unsafe.

Tip #3: Always wash your hands

When handling a newborn, having clean hands is a must. So wash your hands or at least use an alcohol or hand sanitizer when moving or holding the baby. Also, make sure that everyone involved in the photoshoot is doing the same. Speaking of hands...

Tip #4: Always have extra hands

When it comes to newborn baby photos, it’s important to always have an extra set of hands around. This is to guarantee your baby’s safety, especially in positions where he/she can move or fall. Whether it be on a bed, couch, bean bag, or even the floor, having a spotter within an arm’s reach is crucial to guaranteeing your baby’s safety.

Tip #5: Watch out for overheating

In newborn baby photoshoots, keeping the setup warm is a must. Then, babies would be put in a wrap to achieve that beautiful potato sack poses. To add support, multiple swaddles will then be added - which can all lead to overheating.

When babies are too hot, their breathing changes, and their heart rate increases, making them breathe too fast. This can also make them more irritable. While babies prefer warm conditions, they should never be too warm as it compromises their safety. So when doing photoshoots at home or having one with a newborn photographer, keep a close eye on your baby.

Now and then, make sure that your L.O’s skin isn’t too warm. Keep an eye on your baby’s breathing as well, making sure it’s steady and even. Other signs of overheating you should look out for include redness in the face, sweaty neckline, and mottled skin.

When it comes to your newborn and his/her safety, it’s okay to be extra cautious. If you are having a DIY photoshoot at home, all the more that you need to be careful since you will be new at it. If you are planning to photograph your baby on your own, here’s the last tip: stick with simple and natural poses.

On the other hand, when working with a photographer, you should never hesitate to say if you feel uncomfortable whether it’s about the poses or something else. Here's something you should always remember: You are the parent and your voice has the most value.

Professional Pet Photography in my Inner West Photography Studio

As a professional photographer I am very lucky to document some of the happiest and most meaningful times in people’s lives – I feel privileged to photograph generations of women together, first birthdays, newborn babies and maternity photos just to name a few.

In the course of such professional portrait sessions, I also photograph lots of pets. They are a huge part of many of my families and most of our clients would never leave them out of the family photos or special moments.

But, there are also the moments that come along in life that are devastating. They can leave us feeling broken and our lives permanently changed. The loss of someone dear to us or a beloved pet can absolutely be one of those moments.

Over time I have had some clients call me to find older photos I took of their pets as they have recently passed on. It is of huge comfort that they can have a treasured professional photo to remember their family pet by.

So this prompts the question….Do you have beautiful professional photos of your family and pets? Maybe it’s time to check and see what you have in your family photo albums and on your walls.

If it’s been a while been photography sessions for your family and pet or it’s time to think about it if you have never had professional photos taken, here’s how I approach our professional pet photography in the studio:

Pets come into our lives and are with us briefly in comparison to our life span, but they undeniably leave the deepest impressions in our hearts. It may be that you want photos of your newest fur baby or your beloved pet later in life.

Each pet and each relationship is different, that's why each pet photography session is tailored for you.

Our sessions can take place in our Leichhardt photography studio located in Sydney’s Inner West. I can also come to your home. Many locations close to our Inner West photography studio are pet friendly. I can document your bond with your pet.

Don’t worry if you think you have a difficult or shy pet, I have all the tricks – I am trained to work with animals and together with your help and some treats we can get some amazing shots.

I focus on your pet for some individual photos as well as some interacting with you and the family. For me I see my job being all about documenting the connection between human beings and their pets. I print and professionally frame these precious photo memories so that your bond and relationship is never forgotten.

Spray tan tips for your wedding

7 must knows on how to achieve the perfect wedding spray tan...

Tips from professional spray tanner Deanna Rhule from Mobile Spray Tan Australia.

1. How many days before my wedding should I get the tan?

We recommend 2 days before the wedding where applicable. This gives time for the spray tan colour to settle and any bronzer to be removed completely

2. How do I prepare my skin to ensure the tan is as even as possible ?

To have your skin in its best condition we ask that you exfoliate as much as possible in the week leading up to your spray tan, concentrating on hands, elbows, knees and achilles tendon. Moisturising is also very important with a god quality moisturiser. However, when having your tan you must have no Moisturiser, Perfume or deodorant on.

3. Will that tan come off on my dress?

It is highly unlikely that any tan will come off on your dress if you have the application 2 days prior to your wedding day.

4. How do I maintain it afterwards?

Once rinsing off your tan you can moisturise to help prolong the colour and stay away from pools, spas and any vigorous exercise until the wedding.

5. Can the spray tan even up my existing tan lines?

A spray tan can help to even up any existing tan lines dramatically but will not eliminate them all together. It is best to stay out of the sun so tan lines are at their finest.

6. I don’t like the fake tan smell is there a way to avoid it?

Most spray tanning liquids will have some fragrance to hide the unpleasant smell of the ingredients mixed together. If this is the case, it should disappear after showering

7. Should I have a trial tan prior to my wedding?

It is HIGHLY recommended you have a trial tan. This ensures you have the right colour and application. Most new brides have a trial tan for their Hens night/day a few weeks before the wedding if they don't already have a professional spray tanner they know and trust.
